Falls are among the top causes of death and injury at construction sites. Common causes of construction-related falls in North Carolina and other states range from uneven surfaces to changes in slopes or levels. A recent report indicates that a construction worker was injured in a fall in another state.

How the construction site fall occurred

The recent construction site accident took place on a Friday night. According to authorities, a man fell into a construction worksite ditch. The ditch was 18 feet deep.

Officials said the accident took place as the man was wrapping up his job for the day and tried to get a ladder in the ditch. The man reportedly lost his footing, which caused him to fall. His co-workers contacted first responders since he could not free himself due to being in a tight space and suffering injuries. Firefighters finally rescued him from the ditch using a rescue basket. It took over an hour to do so. The worker was transported to a medical center for evaluation.

How a workers’ compensation attorney may help

If a construction worker in North Carolina is injured in a work-related fall, he has the right to contact a workers’ compensation attorney. An attorney can help the individual file a workers’ compensation claim for benefits to cover medical bills and the loss of wages stemming from the fall. The attorney can also assist the individual in gathering evidence to support the workers’ compensation claim, such as bills and medical records, to maximize the workers’ compensation amount awarded.
